Scholarship Opportunities

The following is a list of various scholarships and funding sources for away rotations.  Please check requirements and deadlines before applying to a 

UIC Based Scholarships and Travel Funing

Health Professions Student Council (HPSC)

The HPSC provides project and travel grants provide monetary funding for students to create programs and represent UIC across the country. 



Award amount: $200

Social Events Committee

The Social Events Committee has funds dedicated to student travel.  This is designated by campus so to get more information contact your local Social Events Committee members or SGA president.

Scholarships and Fellowships

Bertram Richardson Scholarship

The Richardson Scholarship is college-wide resource to help students defray costs of travel for international for credit rotations during the senior year.  Grants are typically $600 to $800 and are transferred to the student’s university account AFTER the completion of travel.  Applications are made available each fall through the Student Affairs office.



The deadline is usually between November 1 and January 15.

CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship.
This award is granted to students that are planning to travel abroad for an international elective.  Students that are selected as fellows will be assigned to an international site.  Projects vary, but are typically 6-12 weeks and may be population work or a combination of laboratory and clinical work. Participants are expected to complete some coursework as a part of this program.

​Award amount: Roundtrip airfare and up to $4000 for living expenses.

International Medical University Scholarships.

Chibia University (Japan) and Jazan University (Saudi Arabia) are two of the universities that extend invitations for UIC-COM students to have medical experiences in their country.  Each of these schools subsidizes the cost of room and board for students who chose to stay with them.

Travel Funding

​The Benjamin H. Kean Travel Fellowship in Tropical Medicine

This award is granted to students that are planning to travel abroad to a tropical location for medical work.  Students can participate in either research or clinical work.  

​

​Award amount: Roundtrip airfare and up to $1000 for living expenses.



Application deadline is March 13, 2013.
